September 3, 2020 - Today, nearly one hundred current and former Republican and Independent elected officials, government officials, and political operatives from across the country have come together to form Republicans and Independents for Biden, a new coalition whose sole mission is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden the next President of the United States.

“More than 180,000 Americans are dead from a pandemic that, with consistent leadership, could have been contained. Instead, it has been left to spin out of control by a President who ignored it, refused to lead, and endangered American lives,” said Christine Todd Whitman, former Governor of New Jersey and National Chairwoman of the Steering Committee for Republicans and Independents for Biden. “In this moment of great national crisis, we need to elect a leader matched to the moment, someone who can restore competence to the oval office and unify the country. Joe Biden is that leader.”

In the midst of a global pandemic, with tens of millions unemployed, we deserve a president who sees the best in us, who can bring us together, and who will fight for the well-being of every American. Instead, Donald Trump delivers a daily dose of bigotry, anger, division and fear.

“Joe Biden is a man of deep faith and commitment to family, decency and integrity, which will serve us all well when he is in the White House,” said Rick Snyder, former Governor of Michigan. “We must elect Joe Biden in November so that we can begin the arduous but essential process of healing America and putting society back on a positive path where civility and working together help us achieve great things as a nation once again.”

With 61 days to the election, Republicans and Independents For Biden will target persuadable Republican and right-leaning Independent voters in key battleground states who may have given Donald Trump a chance in 2016, but now know that he can not lead our country to the greatness we seek.

“Americans were promised more good-paying jobs and the opportunity for their families to live the American dream if they worked hard and played by the rules,” said Rosario Marin, the 41st Treasurer of the United States under President George W. Bush. “Instead, Donald Trump’s willful ignorance and abdication of leadership in the face of a pandemic has led to more job losses than at any point since the Great Depression. Tens of millions of Americans remain out of work and dependent on government assistance to feed, clothe and shelter their families. In short, there is no credible argument for the president to make that American families are better off than they were four years ago.”
